OBJECT/PRODUCT DESIGN - CONCEPTUAL PROJECT
It is a flexible seating arrangement designed to foster intimacy between two people, redefining the classic chair or chaise lounge. Inspired by concepts of intimacy and hierarchy in romantic relationships, the design is based on the theory of Professor Bogdan Wojciszke. TOOLOOP illustrates different levels of closeness and trust, from superficial to deep relationships, through shared experimentation with various ways of sitting.
Families and cultures impose specific ways of sitting, but everyone has individual comfort needs, especially in close contact with another person. TOOLOOP, with its numerous configurations, encourages the exploration of comfortable seating positions for two, inviting users to assess comfort and build intimacy. Its flexible structure can be folded, twisted, or combined, creating an infinite number of shapes.
The seat supports the body in various positions, adding an element of playfulness to the relationship. Active participation and a sense of humor are key to discovering its potential. This "play" provides positive emotions, helping to maintain intimacy in a relationship. TOOLOOP is a platform for interaction, engaging users in reflecting on the levels of intimacy in relationships. It is ideal for romantic relationships, but also for friendships, parent-child relationships, or sibling bonds.
"Tooloop" is a combination of the words "tool" and "loop."
Firstly, it refers to its structure. When fastened, the seat forms a Möbius loop, symbolizing infinity.
Secondly, the name also describes the function of the seat as a symbolic tool for building and strengthening interpersonal bonds, acting like a loop with endless possibilities for use. The seat not only provides a comfortable place to sit but also serves as a tool for building and maintaining closeness between partners. It's a space where cyclic interactions, conversations, or shared activities become tools for creating a lasting, harmonious relationship. This name also underscores the idea of continual work on the relationship, which is crucial for maintaining intimacy and understanding between partners.
